Google is now making search results easier for its users. Recent Google updates on its browser will now allow you to search for a specific short keyword or long-tailed keyword and then the result will be a specific line of texts or paragraph that directly answer your question or keyword query. The answer is also highlighted with the color yellow on mobile phone and light magenta on laptop or desktop computer.

As stated on TheVerge, clicking the snippet still takes you to the webpage that it pulled the information from, but now the text from the snippet will be highlighted in yellow, and the browser will automatically scroll down to the section in question.

Here is a live example of Google's highlight featured snippet anchor text on its search result. Try searching for the keyword remove oil. As you can see on the image below, There is already an answer for the searched keyword. Clicking the link will redirect to Today.com website.

Now, after clicking the link, that particular texts or paragraph is also automatically selected in the page that you just visited.

The good thing about this, is that, you do not have to read all the other unnecessary texts and paragraphs just to get to the answer that you needed. Google automatically finds the answer for you in the middle of the haystack.

But for this tutorial, we will going to link directly our post or article to specific text on another webpage, post or article.

For what? Same goal as Google's! So that, when we referenced an external page on our website, our readers will automatically going to read the part that they only needed to read and not the whole story.

How to Link Directly to Specific Text on other Webpage

For this tutorial, I want to reference specific text, phrase or paragraph on this National Geographic article entitled: "Scientists urge local mask mandates as Delta sweeps the U.S."

And I decided to select the following phrase. "What's happening in Arkansas and Missouri is likely to happen in other areas with low vaccination rates"
👉 Step 1 - Get the URL of your target webpage. In this example my target URL is:

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/scientists-urge-local-mask-mandates-as-delta-sweeps-the-us

👉 Step 2 - At the end of the URL, add this: #:~:text= .Your URL will now look like the URL below.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/scientists-urge-local-mask-mandates-as-delta-sweeps-the-us#:~:text=

👉 Step 3 - Now, at the end of your new URL, copy and paste the line of text that you want to target in the other webpage. All you need to copy is at least 3 to 5 texts at the beginning and 3-5 text at the end. Separate the two parts by a comma (colored pink). See sample below.

👉 Step 4 - Optional. Technically, the URL in STEP 3 is already working because Google will automatically replace every space in the What's happening in Arkansaslow vaccination rates by %20 (it is the URL code for space). But if you really wanted your URL to be a complete URL, then, you need to change every space with %20. If you did it, the complete URL will be the sample below.

👉 Step 5 - But, do not worry, you do not need to type %20 manually. Because that will take some time, specially if the targeted text or phrase is a little lengthy. All you need to do is: Select the whole URL above (Step 3) > right click > click Go to https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/...

👉 Step 6 - Now, look at your Google Address bar. Google is smart enough to convert all the spaces to %20. It even converted (in my example link) the apostrophe symbol into %27 automatically also. All you need to do now is copy the link inside your address bar and that URL is the one that you needed.

👉 Step 7 - Done! All you need to do now is place that URL inside your anchor tag to make it clickable for reference of your readers.

Important notes:

👉 Make sure to always separate the starting part and the ending part of the targeted texts/phrase by a COMMA.

👉 And also make sure to convert any other COMMA's (not the separator) into %2C. Otherwise, your link won't work.
